The CAF Champions League match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Young Africans SC took place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa. The Mamelodi Sundowns players conducted a pitch inspection during the match. Notably, the Brazilians rested all 11 players who started the first leg in their DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday after securing a 2-1 win against Sekhukhune United with early goals by Tashreeq Matthews and Thapelo Morena.

Sundowns needed to win by at least a two-goal margin to proceed to the final. In contrast, Esperance had the advantage with a lead due to a goal scored by Yan Sasse just before the break in the first leg. The Tunisian giants had a week without a game and only needed a draw to proceed to the final.

Additionally, ES Tunis would advance if they lost by a one-goal margin, provided they scored.
