The north African giants have never won in the country and have been on the end of some heavy thrashings at the hands of Masandawana. One of their biggest defeats was the 5-0 loss they suffered to the Pitso Mosimane-led side at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in 2019, and according to Saad Samir, the defeat did not go down well with the chiefs in Cairo.
Samir, who started in central defence that day alongside Ayman Ashraf, has revealed that the board of directors of the record African champions decided to slash the players’ wages as punishment for the defeat. “The Al Ahly club’s board of directors informed the players of huge discounts following the defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns by five in the African Champions League competition, which was held at the South African team’s stadium, indicating that the team was suffering from some defects in this match,” the 35-year-old said, as per *El Watan Sports*.
