Veteran defender Clayton Daniels dedicated his run at the Two Oceans Marathon to a late former teammate, Luke Fleurs. The former SuperSport United man paid tribute to Fleurs, who tragically lost his life in Johannesburg two weeks ago.
Daniels was not participating in the Ultra marathon, but he ran the half marathon on Sunday and dedicated his effort to his recently slain ex-teammate. “Fleurs was gunned down during a botched car hijacking incident at a petrol station in Johannesburg,” Daniels mentioned.
Six people have been arrested for his murder, and his stolen VW Golf 8 was also recovered. The suspects appeared in court last Friday, and the bail hearing has been postponed to this Friday.
Daniels ran the Two Oceans Marathon wearing Fleurs’ number 25 SuperSport United red Away jersey and reflected on Fleurs’ passing. At the conclusion of the race, he expressed his sadness about the incident and the loss of a young individual with a promising future.
Fleurs’ funeral is scheduled to take place at the New Apostolic Church in Mitchell’s Plain on Saturday, 20 April.
