Real Madrid has been reported to have made a last-minute request to UEFA to close the retractable roof for their match against RB Leipzig in the round of 16. This move was seen as an attempt to create a hostile environment for their opponents. The request was approved following a meeting between UEFA officials and the match referee, Francois Letexier.
Manchester City, Real’s opponent, have been described as “powerless” in response to the Spanish club’s request. After reaching the semi-final stage last season, only to be knocked out by eventual winners Manchester City, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid will be looking for revenge. As it stands, Real Madrid has only suffered one defeat in 90 minutes this season, with another loss occurring in a penalty shootout against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey’s round of 16.
