The Nedbank Cup, Quarter Final match between AmaZulu FC and Orlando Pirates took place at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa, on April 13, 2024. After the match, former Bucs left back Innocent Chikoya expressed his belief that if the team plays the same way they do in cup games for their league matches, they could compete for the PSL title.
Chikoya emphasized that in cup games, the team goes all out with the knowledge that it’s a once-off game and fights hard to win. He suggested that if they can approach league games with the same mentality, they could challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the top spot in the league.
Chikoya expressed that the team deserves to be at the top and could become the team to beat by changing their approach to league games. He also discussed the lack of consistency in the DStv Premiership and stressed that this should be the team’s main focus, rather than the cups.
Chikoya highlighted the importance of maintaining consistency in order to win the league title and qualify for the Champions League. Chikoya praised the team’s understanding and emphasized the need for consistency in their performance to challenge Sundowns for the league title in the future.
He concluded by emphasizing that while winning other trophies is good, the league is the ultimate prize, and they must fight hard to win it soon. Pirates’ next league match is scheduled against AmaZulu at Orlando Stadium, following their 4-2 victory over AmaZulu in the recent Nedbank Cup quarter-finals at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
