A gang of heavily armed tsotsis attacked the Mhala Total filling station in Thulamahashe, Mpumalanga on Saturday, 13 April, leading to a shootout. One of the eight tsotsis involved is now in critical condition in the hospital after being shot during the confrontation with the police.
The incident prompted a fast response from nearby tavern patrons who threw stones at the tsotsi before the police arrived. The patrons were seeking retaliation for the violent actions of the tsotsis, but the police intervened and took the injured individual into custody.
