The Elephants made changes to their starting lineup after their loss to Nigeria. Nicolas Pepe was given his first start, replacing Boga, and Wilfried Singo took the place of Serge Aurier. Guinea, who were at the top of the group, knew that a win or a draw would secure their spot in the last 16, while a win would give them first place. On the other hand, the hosts needed a win to progress after their defeat to Nigeria.
However, Guinea struck first as Emilio Nsue scored the opening goal by turning in a low cross from Carlos Akapo. In the second half, Guinea increased their lead with a fantastic free-kick from Pablo Ganet in the 72nd minute. Nsue completed his brace 15 minutes later, finishing off a quick counter-attack to score his fifth goal of the tournament. Jannick Buyla added one more goal in the 88th minute.
The Super Eagles made several changes to their lineup, starting Kenneth Omeruo, Bright, Osayi-Samuel, Joe Aribo, and Moses Simon. After a quiet start, they broke the deadlock just before halftime when Opa Sangate scored an own goal while trying to clear Simon’s cross. Guinea thought they had scored in the 82nd minute through Franculino Gluda Dju, but the goal was disallowed for offside. The Super Eagles held on to claim the victory, finishing second in Group A, while Guinea ended their campaign in fourth place.
