The documentary that follows Sundowns Ladies’ first CAF Champions League win has been selected as an official feature film at BrandStorytelling 2024. This prestigious event showcases world-class stories told by major brands. BrandStorytelling is currently taking place and will conclude on January 20th. It is also a Sanctioned Event of the renowned Sundance Film Festival, and it is being held in the United States.
The documentary focuses on the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Team as they strive to become the first champions of the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021. It sheds light on the fight for gender equality in the sport, the challenges of life, family responsibilities, and the heartfelt connections between individuals, as highlighted by the club on their website. The story captures the grit and perseverance of Jerry Tshabalala’s troops, told through the perspectives of the head coach, club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, and players Andile Dlamini and Nonhlanhla Mthandi, among other key voices.
Motsepe, the club chairman, explained the motivations behind creating this impactful film. Firstly, they wanted to promote women’s football and inspire future generations of female footballers in Africa. Secondly, they aimed to address the challenges faced by female soccer players and attract new sponsors to support women’s football. Motsepe expressed immense pride in sharing their story with film and football fans worldwide.
