Last week, Fleurs was tragically killed in a hijacking at a petrol station in Johannesburg, leaving the footballing world in shock. The painting displayed images of Fleurs representing SuperSport United and South Africa during the 2020 Olympic Games, as well as in the colors of Amakhosi, a team he had joined just last October. In response to the loss of his friend, a Cape Town-based rapper, Lukey Luxman, released a song in memory of Fleurs, expressing gratitude for his support and encouragement.
The song reflected his emotions and appreciation for Fleurs, who had a keen interest in his music and consistently motivated him to improve. The tragic incident occurred at a petrol station in Honeydew, Gauteng, where Fleurs was attacked by armed individuals while waiting to be served. He was shot in the upper body before the perpetrators fled in his VW Golf 8 and a BMW 1 Series.
Six suspects were later arrested for his murder, and Fleurs’ car was found stripped in Soweto. Today, a memorial service is being held at the FNB Stadium to honor Fleurs’ life and legacy. The football community and beyond are coming together to pay their respects to a beloved athlete.
