The news comes amid a report that UEFA’s national competitions change committee voted in favor of the change, which is due to be confirmed later this week. It is suggested that the organization had initially planned to revert to 23-man squads.
Expanded squads were still optional for head coaches at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, largely due to the tournament being held mid-season and in warm weather. Among the managers in favor of 26-man squads were Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman and England’s Gareth Southgate, who previously preferred a smaller group.
