On April 16, 2024, Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain celebrated scoring his team’s third goal from a penalty kick during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg match between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Barcelona, Spain. The home side got off to a perfect start when Lamine Yamal passed Nuno Mendes and set up Raphinha to score the third goal of the tie. At that point, PSG had possession but struggled to create clear openings in the Barcelona box. Barcelona’s task was complicated when they lost defender Ronald Araújo to a straight red card for a foul on Barcola, who was through on goal.
However, PSG equalized as Barcola crossed to former Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele to score. Eight minutes into the second half, a quick corner saw Hakimi set up Vitinha to double the lead with a strike from distance. Shortly after, PSG took the lead from a penalty after Dembele was fouled by Joao Cancelo. Kylian Mbappe converted the penalty, putting his side 4-3 up on aggregate.
Despite being a man down and without Xavi Hernandez on the touchline, Barcelona came close to scoring through Raphinha, who missed the target. However, PSG secured the win on 88 minutes when Mbappe completed his brace, sending his side to the final with a close-range finish after a scramble in the box.
