The DStv Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows took place on March 5, 2024 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. Luke Fleurs was a participant in the match. The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni appointed a team to trace and apprehend the suspects who allegedly hijacked and killed the Kaizer Chiefs soccer player. This team successfully arrested six suspects in Slovoville, Soweto, on April 10, 2024 and recovered the victim’s car, which had been stripped, on April 8, 2024.
The authorities believe that the suspects may be part of a car hijacking syndicate in Gauteng, and the search for additional suspects is ongoing. The operation, led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Crime Detection Major General Mbuso Khumalo, involves various law enforcement units including the SAPS Provincial Investigation Unit, SAPS National Crime Intelligence, SAPS Drone Unit, Honeydew Detectives, Honeydew Crime Intelligence, CAP Special Operations, and Fidelity Specialized Services. The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on April 12, 2024. A memorial service for Luke Fleurs is scheduled to be held at FNB Stadium on April 11, 2024.
Soccer Laduma expressed their condolences to the Fleurs family, Kaizer Chiefs, and the football community during this difficult time.
