Everton, a Merseyside team, has been docked an additional two points for violating the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. The club has announced its intention to appeal the Premier League’s recent decision in a statement on its website. The statement indicates that Everton was charged for surpassing the permitted Profit and Sustainability thresholds for the evaluation period ending in 2022/23. A Premier League Commission has confirmed the immediate two-point deduction for Everton.
The club expressed gratitude to the Fan Advisory Board, other fan groups, and all Evertonians for their ongoing support and patience. It also mentioned that preparations have commenced to appeal the decision made by the Commission, with no further comments to be shared at this time. Earlier this year, Everton had been deducted 10 points, which was later reduced to six points following an appeal. This current deduction has caused Everton to drop to 16th place on the table, just two points above the relegation zone.
