Mohamed Salah of Liverpool reacts after a missed scoring chance during the UEFA Europa League 2023/24 Quarter-Final second leg match between Atalanta and Liverpool FC at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on April 18, 2024 in Bergamo, Italy. Mohamed Salah stepped up and slotted home to make it 3-1 on aggregate. The Reds enjoyed most of the possession as they looked to claw away at the deficit, but they were lucky not to concede before the 20-minute mark as Alisson Becker produced a good save to keep out Tuen Koopmeiners.
Atalanta thought they had equalised five minutes before the halftime break through Koopmeiners’s neat finish, but celebrations were cut short due to the offside flag for the attacker. The home side nearly pulled level on the night in the 60th minute when the influential Davide Zappacosta broke free down the right before picking out Koopmeiners, who saw his strike denied by Alisson Becker. With the Reds struggling to find the second goal early in the second stanza, coach Jurgen Klopp responded with a triple change as Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliot replaced Salah, Luis Diaz and Szoboszlai.
Unfortunately for the away side, chances were few and far between in the latter stages of the second half, and they never looked like getting a second goal, as the Italian outfit saw out the remaining clash to advance to the final four.
