The former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward’s lawyers have filed a complaint with FIFA, alleging that CAF secretary-general Veron Mosengo-Omba opened an investigation to generate negative publicity. The investigation by CAF was initiated in August last year after the circulation of voice notes suggesting Eto’o’s involvement in match-fixing. Reports indicated that the person Eto’o was speaking to in the clip was the president of a Cameroonian football club.
In response, Eto’o’s lawyer, Antoine Vey, stated that his client has never engaged in a conversation about fixing games. Vey mentioned the identification of individuals involved in the situation, specifically the secretary-general, and expressed concerns about the recording of the tape and its purpose. He emphasized that Eto’o does not recall participating in a conversation where he discussed corruption, clarifying that the tape reflects him reassuring a club president about certain issues, without indicating the use of illegal means.
